disney+ & plutoTV stuff

we've been watching disney+ stuff for a couple of days now. my brother is watching the MCU TV shows (none interest me this time) & we are watching star wars; skeleton crew.

i think they were going for a 1980s live-action kids move vibe. i can see the makers being inspired by the last starfighter and flight of the navigator, with a bit of the goonies and E.T. thrown in. they ride on some kind of mini-speeder bikes (wim's has a basket), they live in a suburban area, wim & neel look like they live in/on a cul-de-sac.

we are 4 episodes in and both me & my brother feel they were going for a han solo vibe with fern. her jacket, the way she was sitting outside of the principal's (they had a different term) office & her whole attitude during that scene. as a woman who wanted to be a girl version of han solo, i love it.
wim is an idiot, i don't know if that will change. his friend neel is the the fat (nerdy?) friend that is often in these kid's things. KB has 2 moms & i guess that was in the background enough that i didn't hear complaints about it when this first came out.
i would watch a series about fern & KB having adventures. maybe solving mysteries like nancy drew. but the rabid fan boys don't like female-lead SW stuff.

plutoTV is....interesting. buzzer has some game shows that we never heard of. like Body Language where people play charades & then just the words to fill in a mad libs type puzzle? they also have channels with supermarket sweep, family feud (dawson & combs ears, as well as the newer ones) '70s match game, the price is right (barker & carey eras) & a few others.
there's a columbo channel (they're supposed to have kojak & quincy M.E. too, but don't) & we watched that for a bit. there's a murder she wrote channel (which has the show logo in the corner all of the time, very annoying) & the nice thing about episodic TV is that you can jump in anytime and not be lost. also, the show is an interesting mix of old movie actors & future stars. george clooney was in an episode, and linda hamiliton was in another.

friday 5; travel

This week's questions were suggested by [livejournal.com profile] canuckfetish .

1. Have you ever stayed in a hostel? If so, where? Did you like it? If you haven't stayed in a hostel, would you?
i've never been. i would not stay in one, i don't want to share a room with strangers. i don't even want to share with my brother (separate beds, of course), but we do to save money. besides, i'm too old to go to one now.

2. What is your favo(u)rite airport that you've been to? Why?
i've only been to 5 & i would not say i had a favorite among them. i will say that just before we went to atlanta for the first time i overheard this guy tell an older couple that hartsfield–jackson was the worst airport in the country. we thought it was OK, but i guess it's different if you have to spend hours there, or travel a lot.

3. What is the best museum you have visited on vacation?

i've only been to 2 the world of coke in atlanta (nothing special) & the los angeles county museum of natural history. not much there & what is there had bad lighting, so that's probably why it was $9 in 2009.

4. Have you ever made friends while traveling whom you keep in touch with on a regular basis?
no.

5. Have you ever had a conversation with a seatmate on a plane?
no. thankfully the 3 times i flew (6, with the round trips) i was with my brother and talking to him is not horrible.

other answers are over here.

some sacrifices must be made

we decided to forgo youtubeTV for a month (suspend? pause?, i forget the term) or so in order to get disney+ again. because they list of MCU things is getting longer & avoiding spoilers is becoming an olympic level sport.

we would've done this last month, but thunderbolts didn't have a release date yet, now that it does we put the plan into action.

of course now that we did this, CBS announced that the amazing race is coming back in september. but it's all big brother people & their friend/spouse/sibling racing this time. i don't watch BB & this might be the first time since the "second chance" season that i have little interest in watching TAR.

my brother's main show, the rookie, is rumored to start a new season in january.

to fill in non-disney+ time, my brother got the plutoTV application for the tv (it's free) & so far the saying "you get what you pay for" applies.
it's owned my paramount & there's a lot of paramount/CBS stuff (they own CBS, if you didn't know). they have channels of just one show, which is odd. and what looks like all of the major market CBS news stations (like reruns of the daily news?) but there's a bunch of star trek episodes, columbo, murder she wrote, old game shows, and the NBC & ABC news streaming channels (oddly enough) so it's not horrible, but it's not that fun either.

Weekend

My Chemical Romance was amazing! A top five show for me for sure. I hope everyone had as great of a time as I did. My wife and I had a blast, it was all I hoped for and more! I was moved into a new position at my current employer. I'm excited for the new role and new responsibilities. I used to be so bored all day and now my hours are better and hopefully I'll be getting a raise in the coming weeks. I guess things are looking up. I promise that I'll be uploading some of my actual work soon. There's just been a lot going on. Speaking of, do you remember when I said my A/C wasn't working? Well turns out my wife didn't listen to what I said when we set up our new thermostat and she left a switch that should have been in the up position down. $120 later and I was right :) I hope everyone had a great weekend! Lets start this journal/bookish thing

So I guess to start this out I'll just share a little of what's been going on in my life recently. Two days ago our AC broke which has been lets just say difficult. My kids text me all day about how hot it is (even though they refuse to leave their rooms) upstairs. It's absolutely been... terrible. I know, I know there are way worse things that could happen and honestly our electric bill will be thanking us next month.

My wife just started a new job which she loves. I've very happy for her but at the same time a little jealous. I've been looking for a new job for about 6 months with no end in sight. While this job just fell into her lap. Not that she isn't hard working or anything like that but someone retired and the higher ups didn't want to go through the process of hiring outside the company so just kinda put her there. I think I'm more than a little jealous now that I'm thinking about it and that's alright. My time will come, the right job will be along eventually. Right??

I've been trying to make friends but honestly that shit is hard when you're an adult. I can't be the only one feeling this way right? I tried the bumble bff app, had to pay for it so forgot it. Not gonna lie I'm pretty cheap when it comes to that sort of thing. I tried reddit too and just got a bunch of creeps that wanted to see me and add me on snapchat. Ugh. I don't even know where this is going anymore.

Perks of this journaling thing.... I actually look busy at work.

Until next time,
Sami

Hi there

So this is my first post here. I'm not sure how this site works yet or even if anyone is seeing this. A little about me:

My name is Sami.
I'm in my 30's and live in New Jersey.
I married my wife in 2022.
I was originally on writing.com until I realized that in order to post anymore I would have to pay for the site. Which is why I made the switch.

This is mainly going to be for workshopping a book. Well it's kind of a book. It's got some poetry and some words to accompany those poems. I'm not really sure how it's coming together so feedback would be great. Well if anyone is seeing this anyway. If not I'll just ramble to myself.

I hope to hear from someone soon.

Sami

more fashion brands in tv shows (columbo edition)

a small follow up/addendum to this post i did a few months ago.

like i said then; maybe i've been lurking at r/ThriftStoreHauls too long, but i'm starting to recognize some of the higher-end fashion brands characters wear in movies & tv shows.

in the columbo tv movie murder under glass, the food critic has a gucci briefcase.

in another columbo tv movie, columbo and the murder of a rock star. the (former) rock star in question has a 2-piece set of louie vuitton luggage.
