Read fanfic so much and so often that, when you go back to watching the television show, you're surprised when they fade to black?

This question brought to you by my retrospective tour through ER season four and my sadface at not getting to see more than a kiss between Benton and Corday.

Harry Potter

I read a lot of Draco-centric fanfiction, so when I got back to the books and especially to the movies I was disgusted how unimportant he seemed to be portrayed, especially towards the end.

I don't know ER, though, so...

I was talking to one of my friends about Harry Potter some time ago. She said something about the epilogue and how unhappy she was with it and I was like "Why, did you want more Draco and Harry sex scenes?" Turns out I was confusing the books with fanfiction. Ops? LOL

I am sometimes genuinely surprised when a show doesn't live up to my expected standards...than, when my friends look at me funny, I realize I was basing it on the much better fanfiction I've read for some of those shows.

Also, sometimes I forget that a character that fanon has labeled asexual/gay/pan/poly generally...isn't, in canon. White Collar, for example--there are times when find myself thinking they really are writing as though Neal's asexual, or hinting at a future threesome relationship between Neal, Peter, and El.

They ARE writing about a future OT3. No one can tell me otherwise.

And I'm usually such a relativist when it comes to canon ships (thanks, Doctor Who!).

It took me two days to notice this. ICON TWINS. ♥

I shall take that same view, I think. :P It's a pretty difficult ship to sink, at least. XD

(Did you catch the finale the other night? My roommate is still traumatized by the screams.)

I remember vaguely a time when I would latch on to the canon ships in nearly all of my fandoms and be content...life was so much easier and less interesting back then...

I used to read so much X-Files fanfic that I used to sometimes get canon details messed up with fanon details. I've read hundreds of fics in my day, and nine seasons' worth of information is bound to get mixed up and/or forgotten sometimes. XD

rhivolution: the Starfleet emblem, on black background (undiscovered country: Star Trek)

I get fanfic confused with canon all.the.time. There was a somewhat infamous quote from me as an undergraduate when I was trying to describe an episode of Star Trek TNG and realized halfway through that it had never happened on screen.
